Annotated Bibliography

Annotated bibliographies are excellent ways to identify credible sources for your research paper.

Today I am going to demonstrate what an annotated bibliography looks like by sharing an example of my annotated bibliography homework for English.
I was given the following information:

Instructions:
1. Locate five credible sources that pertain to the conversation around your topic. At least one source should be Biblically based (the Bible is not included).
2. Write MLA citations for each of the five sources. 
3. Follow each MLA citation with a paragraph CRAAP analysis.


This book is a credible source for my research because it brings insight to my research topic. The author’s is Stephen Altrogge, is a pastor at Sovereign Grace Church of Indiana, Pennsylvania, where he leads worship, preaches, and works with youth. He has written several worship songs for musical projects produced by Sovereign Grace Ministries and is the author of Game Day for the Glory of God and The Greener Grass Conspiracy. The book was published 30 September 2008. The author’s main goal in this book is to teach us how to glorifying God through sport. The publishing source for this book generally targets an audience that fits the following description: Christians. This audience would be interested in this subject because it is filled with consuming information that informs us about how we can worship Christ through sport. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree with this author. I think this book is important to include in my essay because it gives biblical guidance on playing, watching, and discussing sports in a God-glorifying manner, helping believers grow in both their love for God and their passion for holiness.
“Athletic Perfection”
This Book is a credible source for my research because it is has accurate and reliable information. The author is Wes Neal; he is the founder and president of Champion of Excellence. For seven years he served on the athletic ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. He is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary.  Cross Training Publishing published the book in 2003. The author’s main goal in this book is to teach biblical principles and the application of these principles in athletic competition. The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience that fits the following description: Christian athletes. This audience would be interested in this subject and would generally agree with this author’s perspective on the topic because he is all biblically based. I agree with this author because of his unique Christ centered training manual, which can be used as an asset in my research paper.
“Habitudes: Images That Form Leadership Habits and Attitudes”
This book is a credible source for my research because creates awareness in the topic I am discussing. The author is Dr. Tim Elmore, he has written more than 25 books, and his expertise on emerging generations and generational diversity in the workplace has led to media coverage in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes.com, Investor’s Business Daily, Huffington Post, MSNBC.com, The Washington Post, WorkingMother.com, Atlanta Business Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, and Portfolio.com. Poet Gardener published the book in 2010. The author’s main goal in this book is to teach about the Art of Self-Leadership: Character, core values, discipline and integrity. The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience that fits the following description: Athletes. This audience would be interested in this subject because it provides vital information on successful habits and attitudes and would generally agree with this author’s perspective on the topic. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree with this author. I think this book is important to include in my essay because it looks at athletics from a different perspective revealing valuable information.
This article is a credible source for my research because of its reliability and truth. The author is Marilyn Price-Mitchell; she is a Fellow at the Institute for Social Innovation at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA. She has a Ph.D. in human development and an M.A. in human and organizational systems from Fielding. She is the co-founder of the National ParentNet Association, a nonprofit that builds family, school, and community partnerships that support youth. The article was published in Psychology Today in January 2012. The author’s main goal in this article is to inform about psychology behind sport and the affects it has on youth. The author incorporates the following types of evidence for positive growth: Intensity, continuity and balance. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree with this author because sport has helped me develop as a person. I think this article is important to include in my essay because it give a secular point of view towards sport.
Positive Youth Development Through Sport        
This article is a credible source for my research because it brings reliable insight to my research paper. The author is Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology, School of Leisure and Sports Studies in Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds, England. His name is Nicholas L. Holt. The article was published in 2011. The author’s main goal in this article is to persuade us about the positive influences sport has on youth development. The publishing source for this article generally targets an audience that fits the following description: parents and coaches. This audience would generally agree and disagree with this author’s perspective on the topic because sport can have negative influences on the youth. Based on my own opinion, experiences, and research, I agree and disagree with this author because sport affected me in a positive way but I saw the negative connotations through my eldest brother, however I think this article is important to include in my essay because it tackles this debate from a different angel, adding a different perspective on the matter.
Keep in mind that you should look double the amount of sources before narrowing it down to the five best sources. For the annotated bibliography only include the most effective and credible sources, your sources should represent different voices, perspectives, and genres.
